Considering Paris-Lyon, Paris-Geneva or Paris-Monaco with a private chauffeur? The questions are many: how do stops work? Who pays the tolls? Does the chauffeur drive 8 hours straight? And above all, is it really a serious alternative to the TGV or a flight? Here is everything you need to know before booking a long-distance journey with Precellence. All our chauffeurs are English-speaking.
What is a long-distance trip?
At Precellence, we consider any journey exceeding 3 hours on the road or 250 kilometres to be "long-distance". That covers a wide spectrum of destinations: from Lyon (4h30) to Monaco (8h30), passing through Brussels (3h), Geneva (5h30) or Normandy (2h30).
These journeys require a specific organisation: a vehicle adapted to long comfort, stop management, toll planning and sometimes a chauffeur relay. Everything is planned in advance so your journey is as smooth as a private flight, only on the ground.
Most requested journeys
Here are our most frequent long-distance destinations from Paris, with indicative pricing in Mercedes E-Class:
| Destination | Distance | Duration | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lyon | 470 km | ~4h30 | €450 |
| Brussels | 320 km | ~3h | €380 |
| Geneva | 540 km | ~5h | €580 |
| Monaco | 940 km | ~8h30 | €950 |
| London | 460 km | ~5h30 | €850 |
| Normandy (Deauville) | 220 km | ~2h30 | €350 |
Flat fares, guaranteed and identical day, evening, weekend and public holidays. No seasonal surcharge. For destinations not listed, request a tailored quote. International invoicing in EUR, USD or GBP available, SWIFT transfer accepted, AmEx Centurion/Platinum/Business welcome.
Stops
On a journey of more than 3 hours, stops are offered but never imposed. You set the pace.
Typically, we suggest a stop every 2 hours or so, at a service area selected for its comfort (clean restrooms, coffee, quiet space). If you prefer to drive without interruption, that is entirely possible: our chauffeurs are trained for continuous driving and know the best service areas on each route.
For journeys over 5 hours, some clients choose a lunch stop in a stopover town. Paris-Monaco, for example: lunch break in Lyon or Valence, at a restaurant we can recommend or book for you.
Chauffeur relay
Beyond 8 hours of driving, regulations and safety require a relay. Precellence then organises a second chauffeur who takes over at the halfway point.
Concretely, the second chauffeur joins the vehicle at a service area or in a stopover town. The transition is smooth: a few minutes of stop, time for a coffee, and you are off again. The second chauffeur meets the same standards of presentation, discretion and driving as the first.
The relay is systematically offered for Paris-Monaco, Paris-French Riviera and any destination beyond 800 km. The cost of the relay is included in the initial quote.
What is included
Our long-distance rates are all-inclusive. Here is what is always included in the price:
- Tolls — All motorway tolls included, regardless of route. Paris-Lyon represents about €35 in tolls, Paris-Monaco about €75. Everything is integrated in the flat rate.
- Fuel — The full outbound fuel is included. For electric vehicles (EQE), charging stops are planned in advance and built into journey time.
- Water and refreshments — Bottled water, refresher wipes and sweets on board. For very long journeys, we can prepare a snack basket on request.
- On-board Wi-Fi — Wi-Fi connection in every vehicle, to work or be entertained during the journey.
- Baggage assistance — Loading and unloading of your luggage by the chauffeur, both at departure and at arrival.
What is not included
One element is not included in our long-distance rates:
- Chauffeur accommodation for overnight journeys — If you book a long-distance one-way and the chauffeur must overnight on site before returning (or before bringing you back the next day), the chauffeur's hotel is at your expense. We select a decent and affordable hotel (from €80 a night). This is always specified in the quote before booking.
Long distance vs TGV
The TGV is unbeatable for a single traveller, without bulky luggage, with flexible scheduling. Paris-Lyon in 2h, Paris-Marseille in 3h15: hard to compete with train speed.
But long-distance private car service takes the advantage in several cases:
- Groups of 2 to 7 people — The price per person becomes very competitive. Paris-Lyon at €450 for 4 people = €112 per person, against around €80 a TGV ticket (without the flexibility).
- Bulky luggage — Professional equipment, sports gear, large suitcases. A Mercedes boot is infinitely more practical than a crowded TGV.
- Door to door — The chauffeur picks you up at your home and drops you at your final destination. No metro/taxi trip to the station, no connection at arrival.
- Comfort and productivity — Spacious back seat, silence, Wi-Fi, custom climate. You work, sleep or take calls in full confidentiality, which is impossible in a TGV carriage.
- Schedule flexibility — Leave when you want, stop when you want. No missed train, no strike.
In short: alone and light, take the TGV. As a group, with luggage, or for maximum comfort, the long-distance private chauffeur is the better option.
