Gare Montparnasse is the 4th busiest station in France and the second for main-line TGV after Lyon. Rebuilt in 1969, it stands out for its immediate proximity to the Tour Montparnasse (210 m), the only skyscraper inside Paris proper. It is the French TGV Atlantique hub: to Brittany (Rennes 1h27, Brest 3h28, Quimper, Saint-Malo), Pays de la Loire (Nantes 2h, Angers, Le Mans), the South-West (Bordeaux 2h05, Toulouse, Bayonne) and Spain (Hendaye, Irun).
The layout is dual: Hall 1 (exit boulevard de Vaugirard) handles main-line TGV; Hall 2 (exit boulevard Pasteur) handles Transilien lines N and U, the RER, and OuiGo. Depending on your arrival, the chauffeur waits at one or the other. A logistical particularity: Montparnasse is the Paris station closest to Orly via the A6, making it a strategic stopover for flight connections.
